Bohannan Huston Volunteers at Children's Water Festival

October 11 , 2007
- Deborah Dixon, Tandy Freel, and Brian Patterson were among volunteers at the Children’s Water Festival held October 1 and 2 in Rio Rancho for Rio Rancho elementary public schools. Scott Armstrong, Laura Marquis, and Kris Johnson will volunteer at the second festival scheduled for Albuquerque public schools on October 25 and 26.

BHI is one of the few private sector companies participating in the water resource educational festivals for area fourth grade students and their teachers. Both events feature presenters in hands-on learning activities encouraging “why” questions from students. BHI presented the “Water Supply Jeopardy” game, “Where Does Our Water Come From?” in which students learned basic concepts and differences about ground water versus surface water supply for potable drinking water. Concepts were reinforced in an interactive game of students competing to determine the correct ground water or surface water ‘questions’ for a series of given ‘answers’ (in the same manner as the “Jeopardy!” television program).

Thank you to Katie Luken of Images Plus for creating BHI’s game board for the festivals. These activities are a great showcase of BHI’s social responsibility and example of community involvement.
